State Patrol: man failed to stop at intersection, drove over embankment
OLD WASHINGTON, Ohio — A Salesville man was reportedly injured after driving his vehicle over an embankment early Friday morning, just east of the Guernsey County Fairgrounds.
The Cambridge Post of the State Highway Patrol says the 54-year-old driver was northbound on Putney Ridge Road, failed to stop at the intersection with Easton Road, traveled through both lanes of the intersecting road and drove over an embankment and down a hill. Troopers say it’s unclear when the crash occurred, but the vehicle was spotted by a passerby at around 5:15 a.m.
The Old Washington Volunteer Fire Department and Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office assisted in removing the unconscious man from the vehicle and he was transported to Southeastern Med in Cambridge. Though his injuries are considered non-life threatening, troopers say the man was transported to Grant Medical Center in Columbus for observation.
The circumstances of the crash have yet to be determined, but troopers say there is no indication that the man attempted to brake at the intersection. It’s also unclear how long the man’s vehicle sat in the frigid temperatures that dropped to as low as three degrees above zero overnight.
An investigation into the crash is ongoing.
