SARAHSVILLE, Ohio — The Noble Local School district is welcoming a new band director.

Douglas Maschue was hired as the high school’s new band director at the Board of Education’s regular meeting on Thursday. Superintendent Dan Leffingwell spoke about the transition as the district’s current band director retires:

Maschue comes to Noble Local from Waterford, where he served as band director from 2013 to the present. Prior to that, he served as band director at Bellaire St. John’s, Buckeye Trail and Beallsville during his 15-year career.

Leffingwell gave the Board a report on the upcoming HVAC, all-weather track and high school paving projects. Leffingwell reported the paving project at the high school will have to be re-bid because the two contractors who put in bids came in higher than permitted, as per bid guidelines. Leffingwell stated he expects the HVAC and track bids to be awarded in April.

Supplemental contracts were awarded to Alexis Watson and Megan Grywalski, high school volleyball coaches, Jesse Wells, head football coach, Justin Wells, Eric Sholtis, Derrick Leach, Matt Weddle, and Justin Rich, assistant football coaches, and Kara Varonsky and Colleen Kasper, assistant junior high track coaches.

Volunteers approved were Melissa Smith, volleyball, and Miley Tomcho, football equipment. Payment in lieu of transportation was approved for Natalie Bowers. Retirement was approved for Melanie Forshey, bus driver.

The Board also approved May 23-26 and May 29 – June 2 as summer school dates.

Finally, the use of the high school football field was approved for an Easter Egg Roll on Saturday, April 15.
