21-year-old suspect was reportedly found hiding in basement early Friday

CAMBRIDGE, Ohio — A Lancaster man was arrested early Friday morning after he allegedly broke into the basement of a Guernsey County residence.

Guernsey County Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to a Bloomfield Road residence, just outside of Cambridge, shortly before 6 a.m. after a 9-1-1 caller reported a burglary-in-progress. The resident told dispatchers that the man had forcibly opened an outside door to the home’s basement, and could be heard rummaging through items downstairs.

Upon arrival, deputies and officers from the Cambridge Police Department entered the basement and found the suspect, a 21-year-old Lancaster man, shirtless and hiding under a blanket. Detectives say the man’s shirt was found on the ground near a car on the property that was also entered.

Guernsey County Sheriff Jeff Paden tells AVC News that the Lancaster man has an extensive criminal history.

He was taken into custody without further incident and transported to the Guernsey County Jail. Felony charges against the suspect are expected on Friday afternoon.
